Laura Dicke joins the Eagle Grove Eagle staff

The Eagle Grove Eagle newspaper is excited to announce Laura Dicke has joined their team as a graphic designer. With only two weeks under her belt, she is already settling in to her new position.

“I like the fast-pace chaos,” Dicke said happily.

Her passion for the field began when she was only 10 years old. That’s when she wrote, produced, and directed her own film called “No Bullying.” She used the program Microsoft Paint to do the credits at the end of the movie, and that’s when she became hooked on graphic design.

“I figured it must be my thing,” Dicke said.

By the time she was a senior at Eagle Grove High School, Dicke served as the senior yearbook editor and she also made a senior video.

“That (video) was the first work I ever sold,” she said proudly.

After graduating in 2007, Dicke attended Iowa State University where she earned the Runner-Up title and “Most Creative Film” in the 2008 ISU Film Festival.

In 2009, Dicke attended Iowa Central Community College where she served as head of promotions for the Student Senate.

Her third and fourth years of college were spent studying multimedia productions at the University of Northern Iowa. While there, she helped put together a video for “Dancing with the Cedar Valley Stars” and through that had the opportunity to interview and film Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson.

In 2012, Dicke moved back to Eagle Grove in order to be around her family as she is raising a family of her own now. Her son, Mason is four, and her daughter, Hailey, is two. She is happy to be back in the town she has always considered home.

Before moving to Eagle Grove at 10 years old, Dicke and her family lived in Kansas. When they would come to visit her grandparents, she said it always felt like home even though she didn’t live here...which is another reason she chose to settle down here now.

“You can’t beat Eagle Grove’s charm,” she said.

As for joining the Eagle, Dicke said she is excited to be involved with a newspaper again because she enjoyed her experience through school working at the Waterloo Courier.

“By some miracle, this graphic designer position opened up at the Eagle at the right time, so I took it,” she said.

Dicke looks forward to being involved with the public and helping businesses and individuals find solutions to their advertising needs. She loves being creative and producing finished products.

In her free time, Dicke enjoys working on special projects, spending time with her boyfriend watching their favorite television shows, Adam Knowles, golf, coffee, and running with her dog, Max.
