MAP staffers attend social media conference

Sara Broers presenting about Twitter.

Molly Angstman and Christina Watkinson of MAP's online department attended the Bringing Social Home to North Iowa conference in Mason City on April 6.  Sara Broers of the popular blog Travels with Sara and Pat Palmer of the Computer Guy, both of whom have a passion for helping others be safer and smarter online, hosted the event.

There were sessions on Facebook advertising, using Instagram as a business, how to take better photos for social media, using Twitter to increase sales, tips on video production for social media, and also a social media panel discussion.  The panel discussion participants were  Kara Ruge of Cerro Gordo County Public Health, Jay Brooks of Iowa Crossroads, and Mason City Police Department police chief Jeff Brinkley.  (A photo of the panel is shown below.)

“It was really interesting to hear about how everyone uses social media for such diverse purposes.  The conference gave us lots of ideas about how we can use each platform a little differently to fit our needs as news people," said Christina.
