New Outlook editor Scott Schulte introduces himself

Scott Schulte

“Why would you move from Connecticut to Monona?”

That is the question I’ve heard the most since arriving here a week ago. The answer is quite simple. Why not? Why not Monona? It’s a great little town with plenty to offer. I’ve met great people, and I already feel settled and relaxed.

I’m excited about the challenge of being your editor at the Outlook. My feeling has always been to do the best newspaper job possible is to offer residence of the community as much of a diverse bundle of information as possible. I’m still getting my feet wet and figuring out which direction to go, so hang in there with me.

As for this guy in the little silver car, I grew up on the coast of Connecticut in a town called Milford. We lived about 60 miles from New York City and spent summers playing Wiffle Ball and winters sledding and playing football. There were tons of kids to spend time with and it seemed as if every day was full of adventures.

In high school I enjoy cross country, wrestling and track and eventually wound up coaching those three sports. In great part I found those sports because I wasn’t good enough to play football or basketball or other sports. This isn’t to say I don’t love those sports, however.

I’m not a sports nut per se…no, I’d say I’m a competition junky. I love competition, whether I’m participating or watching.

I’m the youngest of six siblings and I was born when my parents were just 26 years of age when I came around. To say our home was kids raising kids would be an understatement.

I have two sons of my own. Taylor is my older one and he is married with two daughters of his own while my younger son, Doug, is 20 and currently serving a Mormon mission in Alabama. I love being a father and even more so a grandfather. I was so blessed to have as wingmen for the last quarter of a century Taylor and Doug. There are plenty of stories, but that is for another day.

This is what my job comes down to, really. Stories. I have them and you fine people of Monona all have stories and I am anxious to hear and tell those stories. So, let the fun begin.
